Baby Lounge
We have created a home from home environment that supports the emotional well-being of the babies in our care. There are opportunities to explore using all of their senses with our selection of treasure baskets and activities the staff provide on a daily basis. The atmosphere is calm yet stimulating with knowledgeable staff who have sound understanding of the importance of talking to and responding to babie’s needs. We have a separate bedroom with intercom and have developed a garden outdoors where babies can explore safely with space to investigate the natural world and develop their physical skills which is essential for the development of the brain and sensory systems.
Grandma’s Snug (Toddlers)
This room for two to three year olds ensures that there is lots of ‘fun on the floor’, again in a homely, safe environment. Children make choices about activities that grow from personal interests and thoughts. Toddlers are given space and time to explore every day using natural materials, tools, messy, sticky materials, heavy and large materials and adults support language development when children talk about their experiences and what they are doing. Active learning and real experiences along with space for them to relax, encouragement to be independent, time to embed simple routines, sharing meal times with staff and other children and daily opportunities to be outdoors builds a wonderful sense of children being part of the ‘nursery community’.
The Grandma and Grandad puppets in toddlers and pre-school are a great vehicle for learning, as with Louis the puppet who supports transitions.
Grandad’s Study (Pre-school)
The consistent home from home approach supports transitions throughout the setting and when children are three they are welcomed into Grandad’s study. This environment builds on previous experiences the children have had and staff ensure the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework is implemented to help each child reach their full potential in all areas of development. Activities are planned around the children’s interests and these give children challenge and support to build confidence and self-esteem.
There are places to extend imagination, build and construct using a variety of media, get messy, explore and investigate the world they live in both indoors and outdoors, a place to be quiet and relax, a place to be together with their peers and staff enjoying meals and Key Person time to reflect on what they have achieved and been part of. Learning outdoors presents different opportunities than indoors on a larger scale and children dress appropriately for outdoors in all weathers. Concrete experiences felt with the whole body through doing and moving give fuller meaning and lasting memories.
All children at Trinity Day Nursery have a Tapestry account that celebrates their milestones and achievements at home and within the setting. It is essential that parents are fully involved in this journey so that we can build a picture of children’s learning and offer additional support in some areas if and when needed. |
